My 8 year old has been using an Jr-sized team equipment catch glove before I bought him a Youth size which is the right size for him. It is much lighter and with only 2 adjustment points, one on wrist and another on the thumb, it is easier for kids to slide into them. Granted, it is not leather so it does sacrifice protection for weight so it is better for younger goalies who have not developed arm strength and hand size. Breaking in was relatively easy using a hair dryer to heat it before folding it down along the fold, then with a baseball and then pressing it down wide open. Taking turns on this will give you results in about 1-2 weeks, of course with some open/close action throughout.
